## D07 - Decision Rights Clarity

---

### Definition

The structured transfer of operational decision-making authority from a founder or senior leader to a named operations leader, governed by an explicit written boundary, a graduated trial period, and a documented recovery process for the inevitable moments when the boundary is crossed unintentionally.

A founder transition that relies on the founder's willpower alone consistently fails, not because the founder doesn't intend to step back, but because informal relationships and long-standing vendor contacts create override opportunities that the authority map doesn't cover.

The structure exists to replace willpower with a tested, recoverable system.

---

### Indicators

- A founder or senior leader is involved in operational decisions you'd expect an operations leader to own independently.
- A vendor or partner has contacted the founder directly about a decision the operations leader was managing.
- The founder has agreed to step back from a specific domain but has not formally documented what that means in practice.

---

### Quick Win

- Name one domain the founder still overrides despite having "delegated" it.
- Write down what specifically would need to be true for that override to stop.
