### Definition

A four-stage framework — consisting of Builder, Systematizer, Delegator, and Strategist stages, describing the characteristic priorities, focus areas, and highest-leverage activities of an operations leader at each stage of organizational maturity.

An operations leader applying strategist-stage thinking to a builder-stage organization will build systems that nobody can operate.

The role evolution map provides a diagnostic for which stage is actually appropriate for the current organizational maturity and what the highest-leverage activity is at that stage.

### Indicators

- You are building sophisticated measurement systems in an organization where basic processes aren't yet documented.
- You are delegating before the systems are stable and testable.
- You have never formally assessed which stage your organization's maturity calls for vs. which stage your instincts are operating at.
