WHAT HEADROOM HQ IS AND WHAT IT IS NOT
Headroom HQ covers the $15M to $200M operational gap. This is the specific revenue range where companies have outgrown the informal systems that worked when the team was ten people and have not yet built the institutional infrastructure that enterprise operations run on.
The frameworks in every issue are built for this gap. They are not enterprise frameworks scaled down, and they are not startup advice scaled up. They are designed for the specific decisions, constraints, and failure modes that appear at this exact revenue stage.
Headroom HQ publishes the Tuesday issue on a biweekly frequency every month.
Every issue follows one of six fictional companies from the HQ Universe— Brightfield Commerce, Anchor Growth Partners, Meridian Professional Group, Vantage Freight Co., Clearfield Partners, and Northgate Services Group. The companies are fictional. Their operational dynamics are built from patterns across conversations with operations leaders at mid-market companies and secondary research.
The fictional format exists because real companies rarely consent to the kind of granular operational analysis that makes a framework actually learning friendly—the specific failure, the specific decision point, the specific number. The fictional universe lets Headroom HQ be specific enough to be useful without requiring any real company to accept public disclosure of their operational problems.
WHAT YOU GET AS A FREE SUBSCRIBER
The free newsletter delivers Part 1 of every Tuesday issue to your inbox. Part 1 covers the framework, the concept, the case study, the operational problem and how the fictional company approached it. Every Part 1 is a complete, standalone piece of content.
You can access the free resource center, which is a reviewed and updated collection of books, tools, certifications, and organisations for mid-market operations leaders.
You also receive the HQ Score assessment, a free 30-question operational maturity assessment that produces a personalised score and stage placement.
There is no paywall between you and the free content. All Issues-Part 1 , industry articles, failure archive entries, and glossary terms are free and publicly available on the Headroom HQ's website.
WHAT YOU GET AS AN HQ VAULT SUBSCRIBER
Part 2 of every Tuesday issue is exclusively available in the HQ Vault, in addition to Part 1. Part 2 is the implementation layer containing the exact scoring criteria, the decision trees, the diagnostic questions for your own operation, and the templates that operationalise the framework.
Part 1 tells you what the framework is and why it matters. Part 2 tells you exactly how to apply it, including the specific failure modes to watch for and the specific questions that confirm whether your operation has this gap.
The HQ Vault also contains the Founder's Desk Notes, the HQ Book Club full syntheses, the Hard Question Verdict, the complete Visual Framework Card Library, the HQ Universe character cards and a lot more.
