Definition
The full set of recurring meetings, reviews, and structured touchpoints that govern how an operations team coordinates, typically comprising a weekly constraint-first meeting, monthly scorecard reviews, and a quarterly planning and retrospective cycle.
An operating cadence is not just a meeting schedule. It is the structural mechanism that determines how often the team's constraints are surfaced, how often decisions are made versus deferred, and whether the operations function runs proactively or reactively.
Most teams have an accidental cadence rather than a designed operating cadence.

- Your team's meeting schedule was built through accumulation by adding meetings when problems surfaced rather than by design.
- No meeting in your current cadence has a defined, enforced purpose apart from general updates.
- Your team's recurring meeting load has grown every year, with meetings added but none removed, regardless of whether each meeting is producing decisions or accountability.
